Corn Feed

Remember to mark the date. The Corn Feed is on Saturday, August 28th. Tickets will be available beginning Sunday, August 8th. Tickets are $5.00 each with a $15 maximum per family.

St. George’s will again be the site of the annual St. Louis Park Emergency Program’s Back-to-School project in August. In preparation for this event, we need to collect new school supplies to be distributed to the students. While it seems early to be thinking about school starting (it’s hardly over!), it is a great time to watch for good prices on school supplies. Traditionally some of the best buys in school supplies are in July. Walgreen’s and target do agreat job by having low prices on needed items. Zippered 3-ring notebooks, two-pocket folders without fasteners, Ticonderoga pencils, 12-count Crayola colored pencils, adult-size Fiskars scissors and glue sticks are some of the most needed items. Good-quality backpacks for high school students are also needed.

Please watch for the bargains as you decide just what you want to donate to the students in St. Louis Park. Also think about vulunteering to help out with this project. News of specific times will appear in the August newsletter or you can ask Camille Schroeder.

It has been the tradition at St. George’s to have a corn feed in August where the parish comes together for a fun event for the whole family. If this something you would be interested in working on, please talk to Laura Harmon or call her at 612-920-3506.

This summer at St. George’s we will be offering re-runs of some of the best received Adult Christian Education Classes from the previous year. This will be a chance for those who missed these classes to enjoy them now. For those who have already attended these classes, this will be a great chance to learn more.

Spring Fundraiser

The Buildings & Grounds Committee is holding a Spring Fundraiser. We would like to raise a little extra money for some special projects, for example replacing the bushes along Minnetonka Blvd. and repairing the stonework by the front steps.

We will be selling Butter Braid paistries. We will take orders in the Parish Hall on Sunday March 28th and April 11th. The pastries would be available for pick up on Sunday, May 2nd, one week before Mother’s Day. THe pastries are frozen and will need to stay frozen until use. Each pastry costs $10 and there are several fillings available. We sole these previously and they were quite good and well received. Please look for committee members in the Parish Hall to place your orders.

paul allickIt is with a great deal of pleasure that the Discernment Team and the Vestry announce that The Rev. Paul Allick has been called to be the seventh Rector of St. George’s Episcopal Church.

A little over one year ago, Father Paul Allick came to St. George’s as Priest in Charge.  He was very down to earth and his sermons were easy to listen to  and understand.  It seemed that all of us were almost instantly comfortable with him.  He quietly went about his work which included Gospel Based  Discipleship, feast-day services, teaching, calling on the shut-ins and hospitalized, a joint confirmation class with two other Episcopal churches and facilitating a Newcomer Committee, to name just some of what he has done in his time here.  He showed us how much we can learn from the Book of Common Prayer, and he emphasized the role of the baptized and the laity in the church.  And he encouraged those who weren’t baptized or confirmed to consider taking steps to receive those sacraments which many have already done.
